Gartner, a world leader in information technology research, has done a study on the current growth of the smartphones operating systems, and has predicted that Google’s Android OS will be on top very soon by leaving iOS ans Windows Mobile OS behind. Just a few days ago, as per IDC’s claim, Windows Mobile OS market share would one day overtake iOS, but now, a similar type of report but with another major competitor to be at top.

iOS expected to trail 30 percent behind Android next year

Actually, the firm predicts that in 2011, smartphones sales will reach 468 million units worldwide, which would be about a 50% increase from the 300 million units that analysts believe shipped last year. But, why Gartner is predicting that Apple smartphone will snag 19% of that market?

Well, actually,  Google’s Android OS to hog 50% of the smartphone next year and the smartphone sales are predicted to exceed 600 million units. Yes, Google’s OS is considered such a powerhouse as it has been so widely adopted by major mobile phone manufacturers such as Motorola and Samsung, who ship thousands of carriers worldwide.

On the other hand, iPhones are more exclusive, which only just recently opened up to a second wireless carrier in the large U.S. market. Also, the iPhone is offered in two models currently, such as, 16GB and 32GB (not counting 3GS). Hence, analysts are predicting that unless the Cupertino based company has something up its sleeve for the prepaid market, then iPhone sales will will eventually start to taper off.

So, what do you think on this analysis report? Just don’t forget to share your views and comments on this with us.
