Well, here’s something for our Mac OS X users! Do you know, you can add a recent items menu to the Mac OS X Dock by using a default write command. Though the default is set to “Recent Applications”, but once the Dock item exists, you can adjust it to feature other recent items too. Well, let’s have more information on how to add recent items menu to the Mac OS X Dock from below.

How to add Recent Items Menu To Mac OS X Dock

First, launch the “Terminal”, and enter the following command;

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{ "tile-data" = { "list-type" = 1; }; "tile-type" = "recents-tile"; }'

NOTE : That is required to all be in one line, hence, if you’ll copy and paste it, then, just be sure that the command is one string.

After that, you have to kill the dock by writing as follows;

killall Dock

Then, right-click on the newly appeared Recent Applications Dock item and you can change it to be Recent Applications, Recent Documents, Recent Servers, Favorite Volumes, or Favorite Items.
